This is a good idea. In fact, the message center should allow you to select hub members from it, whether or not they are in a particular group, for sending a message.

Group messaging is much improved within the new groups component.
Now a manager has the ability to message one specific member and member status(members, managers, applicants, invitees) or they also have the ability to message a member role.
Groups can now assign members to a member role, such as IT manager or Team Leader. For now it is only a labeling mechanism(does nothing permissions wise), and once there are members in a role managers have the ability to message a role.
