Purdue Polytechnic Educational Research and Development

Incubator for modern transdisciplinary education

Site: https://polytechhub.org

The Purdue Polytechnic Educational Research and Development group is creating an incubator for modern transdisciplinary education. We are developing new ways to learn, to provide students with practical, project-oriented, small-team experience. We are enabling faculty from across campus to work together as mentors, motivators, and innovators, defining how students demonstrate mastery of abilities, skill sets, and knowledge. We're asking big questions and daring to take risks. We are rethinking higher education.

We aim to create new ways to teach and to learn. Students will often focus on practical skills and self-motivated learning. Within each project or learning module, a group of faculty will tutor students toward completion of self-paced goals. Students will learn by doing. They will demonstrate mastery of a body of knowledge, skill set, or ability.

Faculty will define what it takes to achieve mastery and will certify those competencies by awarding badges or certificates via Passport, an application developed by Purdue's ITaP Studio team, providing students with tangible proof of their academic accomplishments. More detailed than an academic transcript, Passport allows students to visually display their work as concrete evidence of their knowledge.
